San Diego City Schools (SDCS), now celebrating its 150th anniversary of service to San Diego’s children, serves approximately 136,000 students. It is the second largest district in California, and eighth largest urban district in the United States. The student population is extremely diverse, representing more than 15 ethnic groups and over 60 languages and dialects.

UCSD Divisions of Physical and Biological Sciences Outreach

Sharing the excitement of scientific discovery with K-12 students, teachers and the greater community is an important goal of the Divisions of Physical and Biological Sciences. The Grey Matters, Science Matters, Atoms to X-rays and Molecules for the Media series and our other programs draw upon the expertise of UCSD biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics faculty to provide insight into the scientific issues that affect us every day, to show the applications of basic scientific and mathematical principles and to explore the process of scientific discovery.

UCSD Protein Data Bank

The PDB is the single worldwide repository of large 3-D molecular structures and serves as a hub for research in structural molecular biology. Outreach efforts include Molecular of the Month, TeacherTECH, National Science Digital Library and national education conferences.
